Kicking Tail and Making Games, pt 1
I didn't have much time for game development this weekend, but what I did have allowed me to get "in the zone" for a few hours. This is by far some of the most productive time to be had. I cleared a ton of items off of my hit list for ... this game.
I also fixed a bug that I believed for two weeks to be a problem with Torque. Turns out it was an uninitialized variable, but it was something that would never appear in Debug mode, only in the retail build. Don't you hate that?
I've been spending some of my time over the last couple of weeks pretending to be a modeler. I'm kinda-sorta lucky in that this abominable travesty of a game I'm working on right now - inspired no doubt by some kind of trauma I've now repressed and cannot remember - is only going to show a very limited number of objects at close range. In fact, the screenshots below show WAY more detail than can usually be seen. The camera distance hides a multitude of errors and sloppiness on my part, but it also demands more skill than I currently possess to make the objects recognizeable at that range.
But I keep plugging away, and it is nice noting how much my skills have improved over the last several weeks / months. I used to joke that I could model a pretty good cube. I'm not much past that now, but I am at least past that.
And now I leave you with some screenshots (a bit closer than they actually appear in-game), and a poem...
Birdy, birdy, in the sky...
Why'd you do that in my eye?
Now I won't fuss and I won't cry.
But I'm sure glad that cows can't fly!
OR CAN THEY?!?!?!?

This is no doubt the strangest thing I'll see all week, and it's only Monday. Now I want to know what on earth this game is about. I want to know, but I'm afraid to ask. :)
Close.
They are defending it, not bombing it. And it's an "Old MacDonald's" Restaurant, home of the fabulous Peopleburger. Over 1 million people served...
I am a sick, sick man.
