Thanks For the Pizza!
Wow. What a difference a couple of days can make.
Technical Difficulties
Blogger's been kind of on the fritz, and our webhost decided to migrate machines without, you know, TELLING us. I guess they figured we wouldn't notice when http://www.rampantgames.com went down and didn't come back. So things have been... quiet... for a couple of days. However, the problems should now be fixed and everything back-to-normal.
TGB Final Release Delayed
Speaking of fixed, the big news on the indie game development front is that in light of some of the issues and bugs folks were having with Torque 2D Game Builder with the last release candidate, GarageGames decided to delay the release of the final version AND extend the Early Adopter pricing a few days. While I know this was a painful decision for GarageGames and the overworked, underpaid TGB dev team over there, the response amongst the community has been very positive, and GG team members have stated that they felt strongly that this was THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
I think this speaks volumes about GarageGames' commitment to the quality of this product. And in the meantime, they have released RC2 for those TGB owners to sink their teeth into. So it's really nothing but good for their customers.
Void War Pizza Party
Back when I was developing Void War (wait, that ever ENDED? How come nobody told me?), we had no idea what making or selling indie games would be like. I told everyone that if it at least made enough to pay for itself and to fund a pizza party for everyone involved, we'd call it a success. We had fun doing it, and we had pizza. What's not to like?
Well, it did. It took a while, but it did, and so Tuesday night we invited the dev team to a pizza party. Well, at least those who live in the local area. While I briefly considered sending a slice via FED-EX to the remote guys, the level of toxicity on the receiving end might be enough to make it considered a terrorist attack, so I nixed that idea.
Yes, it was a terrible way to re-invest that money. But I made a promise, and wanted to keep it. It was a good time, and a good way to tell everyone thank you for the work they put into the game.
And an even bigger Thank You to you folks who purchased Void War and made it possible. (And I'm gonna single out Chris specifically and embarass him, because he told us to have a slice on him when he bought the game! You Rock!) I am very proud of what we accomplished with Void War. As I've said before - there's an incredible elation and validation I experience when people play this game and like it enough to shell out their hard-earned cash for it. It's a whole Sally-Field-Winning-the-Oscar kinda feeling.
You guys rock. Thanks for the pizza!
And with that, I am back to work on the next game...

Awesome news, Jay! Glad to hear the pizza party become a reality.
I'm still enjoying Void War. I haven't completed the singleplayer portion yet but I'm getting there. It's nice having a game where I can jump in, spend 15 minutes playing and quit yet still advance the storyline far enough to be worthwhile. Definitely a good fit for my schedule.
I was also glad to see the big TGB news. While I haven't bought it yet, with support like that and the current price, I won't be holding out much longer.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to kicking some Baron Cowfred Von Richthoofen tail soon. :]

Congratulations! I need to finish the game myself. It's a challenging game for those of us not used to real space physics. :)
While I haven't done it RECENTLY, one of the joys of Void War for me was being able to do exactly the same thing for months after I released it. It was a game that I wanted to play, and I enjoyed being able to just jump in and enjoy some quick combat action for ten minutes or so, and call it good.
My skills have gone downhill a bit lately though. I was playing through it more recently and TOTALLY got my butt kicked on easy difficulty by the Solaris.
