Apocalypse Cow Title Theme
Yes, I know I've been talking a lot more about Frayed Knights lately, but Apocalypse Cow is still in development. I'm still working on both games.

For the music, I convinced Mike Nielsen, a friend and coworker at Wahoo Studios, to lend his absolutely awesome skills to the task. And I must say, I am thrilled with the results. I asked for "Old McDonald Had a Farm" done in a minor key, and turned into a military march (or more specifically, the Imperial March from Star Wars). It took us a couple of iterations, but he nailed the "main theme," which he dubbed, "The Moosolini March."

And the rest of his music is just as awesome.

Anyway, I wanted to share the awesomeness with you. For your entertainment, here's a mid-quality MP3 of the Apocalypse Cow Main Theme Music:

The Moosolini March

Enjoy!

Excellent stuff!

How much work is left to be done before I can get crush the bovine hordes?

Very cool. Very, very cool.

So, I'll take this opportunity to gracefully segue to a (music-based) question.

My wife's a musician - BMusic, performer, composer. She's interested in writing game music for hire, preferably as an independent.

Any thoughts on getting started as a hired music gun?

One word: Networking.

I know it's old, tired advice, but its still true.

I get an email about once every months from a composer asking if I would be interested in hiring them to do some music for a game project. And who knows? Maybe someday I'll go just that route (though I always worry... do they really understand what I'm saying when I maintain that I'm still paying for these games out of my own pocket? My own pocket that has to pay for food, mortgage, and band instruments for the kids?

But the emails are useful to let me know who's out there, but they are still strangers. Someone I meet at work, or at the Utah Indie Game Developer's meet, or someone I've exchanged cards with at the Game Developer's Conference or something like that would be far more likely to get a call from me. Though I work to try and overcome it, I'm still kind of a shy person, and so I'm much more likely to call someone I already know and have a relationship (if only embryonic) with.

Barring a face-to-face relationship, even someone I know from forums might count. Not just someone who posted at the Rampant Games or IndieGamer forums and said, "Hi, I do music," but someone who was an active participant. The ice is already broken there to some degree - I kinda know them, so it's a smaller step to start working with them.

Anyway - I hope that helps.

That title theme is great stuff. Gave me the big grin.

That does help, thanks! Mostly, I was asking in case there was a shortcut I didn't know about - I didn't think there was, but we'd have looked kinda stupid if there was a 'www.getguarranteedmusiccontracts.com' somewhere that we didn't use.

And I appreciate the perspective from someone who hires independent composers.

Very cool! Made me laugh out loud and still managed to sound ominous.
