Frayed Knights - Alpha Candidate Close...
Wow. I just did a play-through of the Frayed Knights Pilot. It took a while. Granted, I had interruptions, but... it took longer than I expected.

And it was pretty dang cool.

There's a nice, long list of issues I've assembled - I guess you could call this an "alpha test," but I'm not releasing this one out to testers yet. I'd like to clear out as many of the issues that I *DO* know about so the testers can concentrate on the ones I do not know about.

But aside from that frustrating feeling of knowing there's way too much to get done and not enough time, it's - at least at this moment - overshadowed by the realization of how this whole dang thing is actually coming together. I'm astounded.

Congrats on the GUI, which did end up looking excellent IMO. It has potential for many adventures.

Frayed Knights is really looking great Jay, especially love that gui widget, sweet eye candyness.

Many thanks, guys. I am pretty pleased with it thus far. I'm not promising there won't be more changes to it from here on out, but I think at this point we'll be looking at enhancements rather than overhauls.

There are still some details of the interface that bug me, but on the whole it "feels right." And it's amazing how much that "feel" changes the perception of the game.

The only obvious thing... I think your characters need "hurt" icons, to show when they are in pain in a more obvious way than the little red/blue bars, ala Doom. Sure, it's cliche ;) That's half the fun! Dirk's grin could be just a little bit smaller, and perhaps missing a tooth when he hits half-health.

Could give you a good excuse to use some cheesy morphing plug-in as well, to morph the faces from healthy to injured back to healthy again. Heck, just Photoshop on a few nicks and bruises when they are taking damage, that would be enough :)

so, when does the alpha start?

It starts no later than Saturday for those in the first alpha group. I *HOPE* to get it out a couple of days early, though.

I cleared out about 1/3rd of the issues I have on my list (including the new ones I found) last night. I basically wanna get most of those issues resolved AND get the game cleaned up for distribution (a tall order). I expect Alpha 1 will be pretty broken as I ham-fistedly try to cut down the download size and stuff.

Oh, I guess I probably need to set up the installer, too. That probably will NOT be in the first alpha, either.

I know I missed the post about GUI revamping, but man.... the interface looks about a billionty times better! Nice!
