Mainstream Game Devs Goin' Indie!
Since I didn't get home from work until after 2 AM this morning (something that will probably be repeated today), I'm just gonna direct you to a new article at The Escapist by someone you know about some people you might have heard of:

Going Rogue at The Escapist

Enjoy!

Due to space requirements, I was only able to include some bits and pieces of interviews in the article. I'll have to throw some "cutting room floor" stuff onto the blog this week if you are interested in more that these guys had to say about going from being mainstream, "big studio" game developers and going off on their own to become indies.

That was a good read and nice to see familiar faces, especially a couple guys from the San Diego indie crowd. I like the idea that putting out your own product will have companies coming to YOU, instead of vice-versa, offering contract work.

Jay! You just made the main page of Slashdot! Who-hoo! or, uh.. get prepared for the deluge of emails. (That happened to me when slashdot picked up on my game developer article 'How to Hurt the Hackers'.. literally over a thousand emails)

As your webmaster, I was very worried about the server traffic. However, two things worked in our favor: the byline on Escapist Magazine had a tpyo in it (that I just redirected to the correct page via an Apache rule) so it was generating a 404 instead of your blog, and you seem to only have one link back to your web site in the article!

Had you known you'd make the front page of the premier geek site on the 'Net, I suspect you'd have made the link to your page more prominent, eh? Congrats, bro.

Wow - yeah, my brother called me while I was in the car this morning to tell me. I'm floored.

I could learn a thing or two from Cliffski, I think (he submitted the article to the firehose). So far, there's not been an upsurge of traffic to this site though. Nobody ever clicks those bylines. :)

Oh, hey, Matt, thanks for fixing that. Woops.

Heh. I'd offer/threaten to post the site link in a reply, but I already moderated on that post.
